KUCHING, March 11 (Bernama) — With Sarawak setting the record in contributing the most number of Barisan Nasional (BN) MPs - 30 out of 140 nationwide - in the just-concluded general election, the state BN wants more federal cabinet representation.

Most state and community leaders strongly feel the Federal Government should now consider giving Sarawakian MPs the recognition they deserved, especially those from rural constituencies as they had delivered all the seats.

Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) senior vice-president Datuk Seri Awang Tengah Ali Hasan was quoted by the Borneo Post today, as saying that more Sarawakians should be appointed to fill federal posts.

“It is the hope of the state BN…after all, it has delivered the most seats to the national BN,” he said, adding that PBB hoped it would be given a bigger role to play in the new Federal Government line-up in the form of more ministerial, deputy minister or parliamentary secretary posts.

The backbone of the Sarawak BN, PBB won all 14 seats contested, including the new seats of Igan, Sibuti and Limbang while Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) six, Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) four and Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) six out of seven seats contested.
